Computing without a Computer

Don’t have a computer but want computing capabilities? Intel’s Compute Stick tries to address that need. Although some may argue it fails the test.

In summary, it looks like the compute stick uses an Intel processor in an HDMI stick which when plugged into a TV or Monitor can turn it into a Windows 8.1 PC. However with 1.3 GHz processor, 2GB of RAM and 32 GB storage, you can’t expect too much in regards to gaming and software applications. This would offer limited functionality and capacity to do anything with programs such as Adobe Creative Suite or heavy graphic intensive applications.

With this in mind, why do you need this device? That’s the first thing to keep in mind. Most Smart TVs offer the capability to stream music and videos, as well as surf the Internet.

So what can you do with it? Intel’s page says “search the web, share your vacation photos, keep up on your email or do any of the tasks that you do on your computer today”¹ Hmmmm sounds kinda like what I can do on my phone, iPad or TV already.
